Oh, the water heater is fixed!

Just read my previous post. It was the thermocouple and the gas co. fixed it for free. Then the pilot light went out again, so I got scared. I re-lit it and it has been working fine ever since. Discovered, in the meantime, how the First American Home Buyers Protection plan works. So that part was cool. Gives me some peace of mind. I am off to take a hot shower. Yeah!
